General Info

Tucked along the riverside streets of Porto, Taberna Está-Se Bem sits at R. da Fonte Taurina 70, 4050-603 Porto, Portugal, a lively area known for its historic charm and food culture. The moment you step inside this cozy restaurant, the atmosphere feels relaxed and welcoming. It’s the kind of place where locals and travelers gather around small tables, enjoying good conversation, simple comfort food, and a glass of wine.

The menu reflects a casual Portuguese dining style while still offering a few surprises. One of the first bites that stands out is the Pork Smoked Sausage Croquette. Crispy on the outside and rich inside, it carries a deep smoky flavor that pairs perfectly with a glass of house wine. It’s a small dish, yet it sets the tone for the rest of the meal and quickly becomes a favorite among diners browsing the starter section of the menu.

Seafood lovers will appreciate the traditional Bolinhos de Bacalhao, a classic Portuguese codfish fritter that arrives warm and perfectly seasoned. Light, slightly salty, and comforting, it feels like a dish rooted in local tradition. Meanwhile, the Sardiñas bring a taste of the Atlantic to the table. Grilled simply, they highlight fresh ingredients and the straightforward cooking style often praised in many Porto restaurant reviews.

For guests looking for something heartier, the Стейк offers a satisfying option. Cooked with care, it delivers bold flavor and a satisfying texture, making it a solid choice for dinner after a day exploring the nearby waterfront and historic locations around Ribeira.

The dining experience here stays casual and accessible. The restaurant offers vegetarian options, which makes it easy for mixed groups to enjoy a meal together. Families will also find the space welcoming since the restaurant is good for kids, creating a relaxed environment rather than a formal dining room. When it comes time to pay, the convenience of debit card payments makes the experience smooth and easy.

Wine naturally plays a big role in the evening here. Many guests enjoy pairing their dishes with Portuguese wine, which complements the flavors of seafood and grilled items on the menu. The setting works especially well for dinner, when the surrounding streets grow lively and the warm lighting inside the taberna adds to the cozy mood.

Overall, Taberna Está-Se Bem feels like a classic Porto dining spot where the focus stays on simple dishes, friendly service, and a relaxed atmosphere. Between the comforting croquettes, traditional cod fritters, grilled sardines, and hearty steak, the menu offers a balanced taste of local flavors while keeping the experience approachable and enjoyable.

What customers say?

“ What an incredible meal! We walked in on a Saturday night around 8 and were seated immediately (around 9 the place was really hopping). Everything we ate was great: padron peppers, cod, and pork. All were incredible and paired well together with the red wine we drank. We also got 2 desserts: chocolate mousse and cheese tart, both with the suggested port pairing. Amazing! It was the best port pairing we tried during our whole time in Porto. Esta-Se Bem is an incredibly tasty and laid back place where you can have a relaxed fine dining experience. You should definitely try for a nice dinner in Porto. ”

“ Fantastic food, the melted cheese with honey and herbs was so good we ordered a second one instead of dessert. My husband raved about the pork croquettes. Great food and service in an area otherwise full of tourist traps, not cheap but worth it. Our waiter was great with recommending drinks and dishes. Came here on a recommendation and so glad we did! ”

“ Great little tavern. Very tasty tapas. Great and friendly host and chef. If you go there ask for the cheese cake. Best I ever had. Prices are normal for this area. Recommend. Cash only place. ”

“ We had a wonderful evening at this restaurant. The owner was very lively and provided a warm welcome. He spoke both English and French. The server was also very nice and recommended Portuguese wines that fit our taste perfectly. The food was excellent and the prices very good for the quality of the food and atmosphere. The menu changes seasonally. The cheese board was nice for discovering different Portuguese cheeses, but it would have been better shared by 4 people rather than just 2! They do not accept bank cards, only cash. There is an ATM a few minutes away. ”

“ This is a lovely tapas style restaurant in a narrow little side street. We ordered a mixed platter of cheese (some strong, extra stinky cheeses on the platter) and charcuterie (gorgeous smoked sausage) and a side of caldo verde - it was delicious, lovely bottle of white to wash it down with too. It was great to watch all the people going by. Just note that they do not accept credit card. ”

“ WOW! What a gem. We dropped in on their off-afternoon hour on St John Festival weekend. Be advised as we were, cash and small plates only. I don’t recall our servers name but he was both direct and a delight. We enjoyed the mussels, oysters, peppers with red wine, all of which were terrific! Small, quaint place. Be prepared to take your time and not hurry this experience, and if not, it may not be for you. ”

“ Great tapas place. Really innovative and fresh cooking. Loved the Boudin and the cheese with honey. Friendly service. Great wines. Highly recommended. ”

“ CASH ONLY (luckily they were very clear about this!) Tasty, fresh food and friendly staff! The different courses came almost a bit too fast, but we managed to enjoy every bite. Great setting, too – this street makes you forget the thousands of fellow tourists eating very nearby. Highly recommended! ”
